BEIJING – The United States has been over-stretching the concept of national security and abusing state power to suppress foreign companies. China firmly opposes those wrong actions, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on the report that following a ban ordered by the Congress, the White House gave government agencies 30 days to delete TikTok from all federal devices. US officials said this is due to concerns over US national security amid US-China competition.

"How unsure of itself can the world's top superpower be to fear a young people's favorite app like that? The United States has been over-stretching the concept of national security and abusing state power to suppress foreign companies. We firmly oppose those wrong actions," Mao said.

The US government should respect the principles of market economy and fair competition, stop suppressing the companies and provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory environment for foreign companies in the United States, Mao added.
