BEIJING – Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Thursday said that the so-called assessment report on Xinjiang issued by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) was masterminded by the United States and certain other Western forces, and was wholly illegal and invalid.
Wang told a daily news briefing that the report is a mishmash of false information and acts as a political tool to serve the strategy of the United States and certain other Western countries to use Xinjiang to contain China.

The OHCHR fabricated the report based on the political plots of certain anti-China forces abroad, which seriously violated the duties of the OHCHR and the principles of universality, objectivity, non-selectivity and non-politicization, Wang said. This proves once again that the OHCHR has become "a hired thug" and "accomplice" of the United States and the West to bully the vast number of developing countries.

However, not even this report, which was illegal and has no credibility, dares to exaggerate such fallacies as "genocide," "forced labor," "religious oppression" or "forced sterilization" in Xinjiang, which shows that the pool of lies created by the United States and the West has run dry, Wang said.
As to the human rights situation in Xinjiang, no one has a better say than the people of all ethnic groups in the region, Wang said. In recent years, Xinjiang has witnessed sustained economic development, social stability, the continuous improvement of people's livelihoods, unprecedented cultural prosperity and religious harmony, he said.
People from all walks of life in Xinjiang, including ethnic minorities, religious figures, migrant workers and people who have graduated from vocational education centers have voluntarily written letters to the OHCHR to describe the real situation in Xinjiang based on their own experiences, Wang said.
He said that foreign friends who have been to Xinjiang believe that what they have seen with their own eyes is entirely different from what Western media reports and what anti-China forces portray.

More than 60 countries jointly sent a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to oppose the publication of this false report, Wang said.
Nearly 1,000 non-governmental organizations and people from all walks of life in Xinjiang have sent letters to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to express their objections, he said.
Nearly 100 countries, including Muslim countries, have in recent years made public speeches at the UN Human Rights Council, at the UN General Assembly and on other occasions, supporting China's legitimate position on Xinjiang-related issues and opposing interference in China's internal affairs, Wang said.
"This is the mainstream of the international community," he said.

The sinister political schemes of the United States and the West to disrupt Xinjiang and contain China using Xinjiang-related issues are unjust, unpopular and doomed to fail, Wang said.
