BEIJING – A Chinese military spokesperson on Thursday said the Chinese People's Liberation Army stands ready to take all necessary means to resolutely counteract any provocation that undermines China's core interests and destabilizes the Taiwan Straits.

Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to attempts of Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party to link Ukraine issue with Taiwan question and the speculation of mainland's "military threat" by some US politicians.

Wu said Taiwan is not Ukraine, as the Taiwan question is China's internal affair that brooks no foreign interference.

No individual or force can stand in the way of China's reunification, he added.

Sending military aid to Russia "pure fabrication"

Meanwhile, Wu said the claim that China sent military aid to Russia is nothing but pure fabrication.

Both Chinese and Russian sides have clarified the issue. The rumor repeatedly spread by the United States against China exposed its sinister intention, added Wu.

"We urge the US side to immediately stop this despicable smearing and do some deep reflections on its disgraceful role in the evolving Ukraine crisis," Wu said, adding that the US should take concrete actions to push for the de-escalation of the Ukraine situation.

Wu also denounced the claim that China had prior knowledge of Russia's military operation in Ukraine as disinformation.

The spread of such disinformation by the US is intended to shirk responsibility and smear China, said the spokesperson.

Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, said he had taken note of relevant reports on US bio-labs in Ukraine, adding that biological weapons are weapons of mass destruction and any information about biological military activities deserves close attention of the international community

"We believe that to resolve the current crisis, we must uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and respect and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries," said Wu.

It is crucial to adhere to the principle of indivisible security and accommodate the legitimate security concerns of the parties involved, Wu added.

He stressed the need to settle disputes by peaceful means through dialogue and negotiation, and keep in mind the long-term peace and stability of the region and put in place a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture.

"What China has done is in stark contrast to that of the United States, which has created and shifted crisis to others, and reaped gains from it," Wu said.

US bio-labs in Ukraine

Wu demanded the US explain its research on biological weapons conducted in its bio-labs in Ukraine.

The spokesperson said he had taken note of relevant reports on US bio-labs in Ukraine, adding that biological weapons are weapons of mass destruction and any information about biological military activities deserves close attention of the international community.

According to open sources, dozens of bio-labs in Ukraine were operated under the S Department of Defense's commands. The lack of transparency and undeniable safety risks, among others, are important reasons these labs aroused broad concern, Wu noted.

The US side is urged to take an open, transparent and responsible attitude and give a full account of its biological military activities at home and abroad and subject itself to multilateral verification, Wu said.
