Civil associations mark Thai-Chinese and ASEAN-China friendship

The Thai-Chinese Friendship Association has marked the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on July 1 and joined other societies in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in promoting regional community.

Korn Dabbaransi, president of Thai-Chinese Friendship Association based in Bangkok, expressed his wishes by reiterating that “China and Thailand cherish one-family kinship.”

Korn, former deputy prime minister of Thailand, said ASEAN and China should strive for common development as a “one-family community” at a regional online forum on June 30.

At the conclusion of the 13th Conference on ASEAN-China People to People Friendship hosted online by the Laos-China Friendship Association in Vientiane, a joint communique was issued by representatives of friendship associations and organizations from 10 ASEAN countries and China.

The representatives agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, restoring the people’s living, and the synergy between Belt and Road Initiative and Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 (MPAC).

Speaking from the Lao capital, Phet Phomphiphak, president of Laos-China Friendship Association (LCFA) said the associations encourage dialogue and international cooperation at three levels, namely those between the capitals or provinces of ASEAN countries and China, between ASEAN and China’s districts or cities, and between friendship schools or hospitals of ASEAN countries and China.

Moreover, to push forward the traditional friendship of ASEAN-China as one family, various sides should jointly safeguard regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Other ASEAN speakers on June 30 include President of Brunei-China Friendship Association Md Firdaus Abd Rahman, President of Cambodia-China Friendship Association Ek Sam Ol, Chairman of the Association for Indonesia-China Economic, Social and Cultural Cooperation Sudrajat, President of Malaysia-China Friendship Association Abdul Majid, President of Myanmar-China Friendship Association U Sein Win Aung, Chairman of Association for Philippines-China Understanding Raul Lambino, President of Singapore-China Friendship Association Phua Kok Khoo, and Executive Vice President of Vietnam-China Friendship Association Nguyen Van Tho.

According to the associations’ follow-up mechanism, the 4th Leaders Meeting of ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship Organizations will be held in China in 2023. The 14th Conference on ASEAN-China People to People Friendship will be hosted by Malaysia-China Friendship Association.
