The Communist Party of China Central Committee released a notice on electing delegates to the Party's 20th National Congress on Thursday, marking the beginning of the election process.

A total of 2,300 delegates will be elected by 38 electoral units across the country, and the election will be completed by the end of June, according to a statement of the CPC Central Committee.

During the election process, intra-Party democracy and discipline must be highlighted, the statement said, adding that the election must be clean and fair, and supervision of the election will be strengthened.

The candidates' political integrity, beliefs and moral qualities are priorities, it said.

Delegates to the 20th National Congress should be excellent CPC members from all walks of life, covering not only Party officials at each level, but also those from the front line of production and work, it said.

Exemplary workers, farmers and professionals need to be recommended for the election, while female delegates and those from ethnic minority groups should also be included, it added.

As of June, the CPC had 95.15 million members, up 3.5 percent from the membership at the end of 2019.

As decided by the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee that concluded last week, the Party's 20th National Congress will be held in Beijing in the second half of 2022.
