Taiwan question is China's internal affairs and the reunification of the motherland will absolutely be achieved, said State Councilor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday.

Peaceful reunification is the biggest aspiration of Chinese people and we're willing to put our best effort for that … However, if anyone dares to split Taiwan from the motherland, we will definitely smash such act at any costs, even by going to a war.

"Taiwan separatist" will definitely come to no good end and foreign inference will categorically fail, he said in a keynote speech themed China's Vision for Regional Order at the international security forum.
"Peaceful reunification is the biggest aspiration of Chinese people and we're willing to put our best effort for that", said Wei.

"However, if anyone dares to split Taiwan from the motherland, we will definitely smash such act at any costs, even by going to a war."
Nobody should underestimate the resolve, will, and the extraordinary ability of the Chinese military, the minister warned.
The human society is witnessing historically rare multiple crisis and the way out of that is to maintain and practice multilateralism and promote building a community with shared future for mankind, he said.

Wei noted China's development is irreversible and the country firmly sticks to the path of peaceful development, stressing that the country's is not a threat but a significant contributor to world peace and development.
China firmly pursues a national defense policy that is defensive in nature, he said, emphasizing that its military is always an army of peace and will also resolutely safeguard the country's sovereignty, security and development interests.

The Asia-Pacific is the most dynamic and promising economic powerhouse globally, and all countries should contribute to building a community with shared future and pursuing lasting peace and universal security in the region, said the senior defense official.
