Pro-reunification political parties in Taiwan criticized the poor performance of the Democratic Progressive Party in the past seven years, leading to Taiwan's economic hardships and precarious livelihoods amid worsening cross-Strait relations.
A statement was jointly released by over 20 pro-reunification political parties and groups in Taiwan on Saturday, calling for the island society to oppose the DPP's wrong pursuit of "Taiwan independence".
The statement pointed out that the DPP has accepted the US' approach of using Taiwan to contain the Chinese mainland, abandoning the interests of the vast majority of the people in Taiwan
The statement pointed out that the DPP's refusal to recognize the 1992 Consensus has led to military and security risks in the Taiwan Strait, and the DPP has accepted the US' approach of using Taiwan to contain the Chinese mainland, abandoning the interests of the vast majority of the people in Taiwan.
"The high housing and cost of living expenses coupled with low wages and long working hours have caused significant social hardship," it said.
The statement noted that the root cause of Taiwan's deteriorating internal and external situation is the DPP's pursuit of wrongheaded "Taiwan independence".

There are doubts, dissatisfaction, and anxiety in the island society over the DPP's collusion with the US to fuel the war crisis, it said.
Looking ahead to Taiwan's leadership election in early 2024, the statement called on opposition candidates to reject the "Taiwan independence" agenda, uphold the 1992 Consensus, and resonate with public opinion to protect Taiwan from war and disasters.
