Shanghai: 14-day quarantine for travelers from high risk areas

BEIJING – People traveling to Shanghai from high COVID-19 risk areas are required to report to residential communities or designated hotels within 12 hours upon arrival and undergo a 14-day quarantine, the municipal government reiterated on Thursday.

These individuals must be quarantined at designated facilities for 14 days and take two COVID-19 tests, said the city's epidemic prevention and control office.

People from middle risk areas are encouraged to stay in and avoid going out unless necessary. They must also report their health condition every day and take two COVID-19 tests.

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 24 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 25 fresh imported cases, the National Health Commission said

The office also instructed public institutions such as schools and universities to adopt stricter prevention measures and urged citizens not to travel to middle or high risk areas within China or overseas.

Mainland sees 24 new local cases

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 24 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 20 in Jiangsu, three in Sichuan and one in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

The mainland also saw 25 new imported cases, 16 of which were reported in Yunnan, three each in Fujian and Guangdong, and one each in Jilin, Henan and Sichuan.

One new suspected case arriving from outside the mainland was posted in Shanghai, the commission said, adding that no additional deaths were reported.

There were 887 patients still receiving treatment, 23 of whom were in severe condition, the commission said.

By the end of Wednesday,  a total of 7,342 imported cases had been reported with no fatalties.

Overall, the total number of confirmed cases on the mainland reached 92,811, including 87,288 recoveries. The death toll remained at 4,636.

There were five suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland on Wednesday.

On the same day, 14 new asymptomatic cases were also reported. There were a total of 411 asymptomatic cases, of whom 395 were imported, under medical observation.

By the end of Wednesday, 11,980 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 59 cases in the Macao SAR, and 15,619 cases, including 787 deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 11,707 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 53 in the Macao SAR, and 12,686 in Taiwan.

More than 1.6 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered on the mainland as of Wednesday, the commission said.
