Virus: Mainland reports 20 new imported cases, 2 local infections

BEIJING/WUHAN – The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported two new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Yunnan and 20 fresh imported cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Wednesday.

Of the new imported cases, six each were reported in Yunnan and Shaanxi, two each in Shanghai and Jiangsu, and one in Fujian, Guangdong, Sichuan and Gansu, respectively.

By the end of Tuesday, the mainland had reported a total of 92,364 confirmed cases, along with 87,126 recoveries and 4,636 deaths

Meanwhile, the mainland identified one suspected carrier in Shanghai who arrived from outside the mainland, the commission said, adding that there were no newly reported deaths.

By the end of Tuesday, the mainland had reported a total of 92,364 confirmed cases, along with 87,126 recoveries and 4,636 deaths. A total of 7,087 imported cases had been reported with no fatalities.

There were 602 patients still receiving treatment, 15 of whom were in severe condition, the commission said.

Also on Tuesday, 23 new asymptomatic cases were  reported, of which 22 were from outside the mainland and one from Jiangsu. 

By the end of Tuesday, 11,965 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 55 cases in the Macao SAR, and 15,453 cases, including 773 deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 11,688 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 53 in the Macao SAR, and 12,348 in Taiwan. 

Nearly 1.48 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the mainland as of Tuesday, the commission said.

More than 17.1m shots administered in Wuhan

Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei province that was once hard hit by COVID-19, has administered more than 17.1 million doses of coronavirus vaccines as of 5 pm Tuesday, according to the municipal health commission.

Wuhan began to roll out free COVID-19 vaccination for people aged between 18 and 59 starting from March 12 this year.

The city began ramping up its vaccination efforts to cover people aged 60 and above from March 23.

Local health authorities have set up a total of 336 vaccination sites to meet the vaccination demands, according to the commission.

So far, about 77.63 percent of the city's adult population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, said the commission.

Wuhan plans to extend the vaccination program to minors aged between 12 and 17 next.
