Virus: Mainland reports 8 new local cases in Yunnan’s Ruili

BEIJING/KUNMING – The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported eight new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission (NHC) said in its daily report on Friday.

The new local cases were all reported in Yunnan province's Ruili city, the provincial health commission said.

They were detected during an all-inclusive nucleic acid testing in the city, the commission said.

The mainland on Thursday also reported 15 new imported cases, nine of which were posted in Yunnan, and three each in Shanghai and Guangdong, according to the National Health Commission

The province also registered nine imported confirmed cases and two asymptomatic cases. Of those cases, five were from Myanmar, three from Sri Lanka and one from Indonesia. The two asymptomatic cases had lived in Laos before arriving in China.

By the end of Wednesday, there were 109 confirmed cases in hospitals in Yunnan, including 31 locally transmitted cases and 78 imported ones. There were also 17 asymptomatic cases, all arriving from overseas.

Meanwhile, the mainland on Thursday also reported 15 fresh imported cases, the NHC said in its report.

In addition to the nine cases posted in Yunnan, Shanghai and Guangdong each saw three cases, according to the NHC.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were reported on Thursday across the mainland, the NHC said.

By the end of Thursday, the mainland had reported 91,989 confirmed cases, 86,902 recoveries and 4,636 deaths. A total of 6,766 imported cases had been reported with no deaths.

There were three suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland on Thursday.

On the same day, 22 new asymptomatic cases were reported, all arriving from outside the mainland.

By the end of Thursday, 11,948 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 55 cases in the Macao SAR, and 15,149 cases, including 718 deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 11,648 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 53 in the Macao SAR, and 11,456 in Taiwan.  

More than 1.35 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across the mainland by Thursday, the commission said.
