Wang stresses development in cooperation at G77, China event

BEIJING – China will create opportunities for global common development, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday, calling for keeping development as a priority in international cooperation.

He made the remarks in a written speech at the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 (G77) and China.

The G77 and China should hold higher the banner of cooperation, stay committed to the original aspiration for strength through unity, keep pace with the changing times and rise up to the challenges to safeguard and expand the common interest of developing countries and the whole world, said State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi

Noting the world is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, Wang said that the G77 and China, as the most important multilateral cooperation platform for developing countries, are expected to shoulder more responsibilities and embrace greater opportunities.

The G77 and China should hold higher the banner of cooperation, stay committed to the original aspiration for strength through unity, carry forward the traditional partnerships, nurture the pioneering spirit, keep pace with the changing times and rise up to the challenges to safeguard and expand the common interest of developing countries and the whole world, Wang said.

In this regard, Wang offered four proposals: keep development as a priority in international cooperation; promote more inclusive, balanced and sustainable economic recovery; promote just and equitable global economic governance; forge global synergy for achieving modernization at a faster pace.

Stressing that China is always a staunch advocate for and active contributor to global development, Wang said that China will vigorously act on the Global Development Initiative made by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and join hands with the G77 to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in a bid to build a human community with a shared future.

China will create opportunities for global common development, instill more China impetus into international development cooperation, and offer China solutions on ways of supporting developing countries, Wang said.

China will remain a sincere friend and reliable partner of developing countries, always firmly support and stand together with the G77, and stay committed to realizing the common development and rejuvenation and an even brighter future for mankind, said Wang.
