Xi inspects Urumqi, Turpan in China’s Xinjiang

URUMQI – Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from Tuesday to Thursday.

On Thursday afternoon, the president visited Grape Valley, a local village, and Jiaohe Ruins in Turpan on Thursday afternoon.

Xi learned about the city's efforts to develop distinctive industries, boost rural revitalization, and preserve and use cultural heritage.

The president also inspected a university, an international land port area, a residential community and a museum in the city of Urumqi from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning.

During his visit to the Urumqi International Land Port Area, in Urumqi on Tuesday, Xi said as the Belt and Road cooperation advances, Xinjiang is no longer a remote corner but a core area and a hub.

Xi said a lot of remarkable progress has been made since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, telling the staff at the land port area that their work is of great significance.

Acknowledging the progress they have made, Xi encouraged them to work for even greater success.

Xi also said he attaches great importance to the work at the community level during his visit to the residential community of Guyuanxiang in the Tianshan district on Wednesday morning.

Noting that a lot of work must be done by relying on communities, Xi urged authorities to put more effort into community-level work to better learn and respond to the needs of the people.

Xi also called for strengthening Party organizations at the community level and improving services in communities to benefit residents of all ethnic groups.

The president watched a show of the Kirgiz ethnic minority epic Manas at the Museum of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Wednesday morning, and talked with the performers of the Manas, which has been inscribed as an intangible cultural heritage.

Xi said the extensive and profound Chinese civilization is composed of outstanding cultures of various ethnic groups.
