Xi sends condolences to leader of Mozambique over cyclone

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday sent a message of condolence to his Mozambican counterpart, Filipe Nyusi, over the disaster caused by Tropical Cyclone Gombe.

In his message, Xi said he was shocked to learn of the heavy casualties and property losses caused by Cyclone Gombe in the southeast African country.

Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and in his own name, expressed deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to the bereaved families and people in the cyclone-hit areas.

Noting that Mozambique is China's good friend, Xi said that the Chinese people share the feeling of the Mozambicans who suffered from the disaster.

Xi expressed his belief that under the strong leadership of President Nyusi and the Mozambican government, the Mozambican people will emerge from the disaster.
