Xi urges China, Australia to deepen cooperation

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping called for deeper cooperation between China and Australia as he extended on Thursday congratulations to Australian Governor-General David Hurley on the occasion of Australia Day.

In a congratulatory message, Xi said China and Australia in 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Taking the anniversary as an opportunity, the two countries have reviewed the past and looked to the future, making active efforts towards the right direction of improving and growing China-Australia ties, said Xi.

Xi stressed that he attaches great importance to the development of relations between the two countries, and hopes the two sides to strengthen conversations and deepen cooperation on the basis of upholding the principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit, as well as seeking common ground while reserving differences, in a bid to jointly push forward the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership and better benefit people of the two countries.
